Having fun with Science
Let's get messy and learn some science stuff! The science behind cornstarch quicksand.
Leave it alone and it's a liquid. Squeeze it and it's a solid. WHAT? Yes, it's true.
Blow up baggies. The science behind the reaction of an acid (vinegar) and a base (baking soda) results in a gas (carbon dioxide) and you blow up a baggie!
The King and Queen of Popcorn. You eat popcorn, but do you really know what's going on inside those little kernels? They do, and now so do the guests at Science Fright Night
The beautiful, fantastic Beta Club Sponsor Ms. Cherron White and the Dark Wizard making cotton candy. How does sugar, which is a solid, granular substance become a sweet fluffy confection? The science behind cotton candy has to do with the melting sugar and the rearrangement of hydrogen and oxygen atoms leaving only carbon behind. The carbon burns and the sugar starts to caramelize leaving a sweet fluffy confection. So now you know!
Do you want your treat bag? First you have to complete all ten tasks, then you get your reward!
A screaming what? Yes, you too can own your very own screaming chicken contraption. All you need is a plastic cup, some string, a paper clip, water, and a little bit of elbow grease.
Ready for an electrifying experience?
This fortune teller upgraded to a plasma ball. Her assistant might have played with it a little too much...hmmm. The science of electricity and Tesla Coils.
Some folks really like to hang out in a cemetary
You did what to a balloon? And it works?
The science of the skewered balloon.
Add a little oil to the point of the stick, carefully push it through the bottom and the top of the balloon, and voila! You have a balloon on a skewer. The top and bottom of the balloon is the thickest part, and the oil serves as both a lubricant and a self-sealer.
Dancing Ghost. The science of static electricity. Static electricity can actually pick up and make a tissue paper ghost dance because of the attraction between the electrons in the balloon and the tissue paper.
Milk. It does the colors good. The secret behind the swirl of color in a Petri dish filled with milk is dish washing detergent. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic forces are working here.
